Abstract

|
We performed microcomedo prevention assay using 50% total saponin and 50% water extract of red ginseng (=WERG) as test materials with oleic acid, a comedogenic agent, as a control. We evaluated the results with microscopic observation of the
spcimens
obtained by whole mount method and vertical sectioning.
Wse found that Saponin and WERG prevented microcomedones in 76% and 31%. respectively, as compared with oleic acid application as a control group. The mean number and size of prominent comedones. defined as a comedone above 0.035mm in diameter.
were
statistically decreased significantly and in number and smaller in size in the Saponin application group as compared with the control group.
In conclusion. Saponin decreased microcomedo formation in both number and size. and was superior to WERG in prevention of microcomedo.
